The so-called "American Justice" is totally different from the rest of the world; crimes such as murder and treason are punishable by death. But is this kind of punishment necessary when it comes to terrorists, or is there a better way? There must be a better way of punishing certain criminals. For instance, just a day ago, Nidal Hassan, the Army psychiatrist who screamed "Allah ahu Akbar" while firing his guns away at his fellow soldiers, had received the ultimate punishment the military can give to a man guilty of treason against the military and his nation; death! But has it occurred to the judge and the jurors that this man is winning his case?
Being killed in the name of Allah, in the Islamic world, is victory won with blood. Martyrdom! It is this unwavering faith that the US military found it hard to defeat these people. They not only want to die in the name of their religion and their god, they love it. No armies in the world equally dangerous to that Japanese imperial soldiers who would behead themselves in honor of their living god - the emperor of Japan, than the Muslim Mujaheddin fighters. In his opening remarks, Hasan told the courts he is a Mujaheddin fighter who failed to fulfill his obligation. In other words, he didn't die as he so wanted. So to sentence him to die is to bring his mission to its full climax - the ultimate martyrdom.
The right judgement should have been 'life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.' Dying in jail would remind this evil man that for the remaining years of his life, maggots and bacterias going to take turns eating his flesh. This would also deny him the title of "martyrdom" title which he sought at the first place. When he fired at these people, he expected himself to die and go to paradise. Thus, locking him up for life means he failed and remained a failure till his dying day.
Sadly, he is achieving what he wanted in the first place.
