Unnamed Sources Attacking Ms Matanga - How Cheap!!

Top officer: Matangi unqualified

The executive of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) are not happy with the appointment of Junita Matangi as acting police commissioner.
An executive spokesperson in an interview with the Solomon star yesterday claimed the majority of officers don’t support Ms Matangi because she is not performing well and she is incapable.

He claimed during the beche-de-mer operation she failed to intervene a police order to deal with the beche-de-mer saga.
“Failing to address the beche-de-mer saga indicates something fishy is happening within the police.”
The officer said Ms Matangi is not qualified for the top job because according to the police Act you have to complete your probation period.
He explained in the police Act when a police commissioner leaves the deputy commissioner will be acting not the acting assistant police commissioner.
“In fact what’s happening now is a hijack of ranks within the RSIPF. Therefore the executive had questioned such approval to have Ms Matangi as acting police commissioner
He said RSIPF senior officers have agreed that, the deputy commissioner Peter Aoraunisaka will be the acting commissioner.
“We support Aorauniska because he holds the position as deputy Commissioner for many years and he is senior in ranking at RISPF.
“We call on Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo to quickly facilitate the process to appoint new commissioner sooner than better.”
The officer explained when a commissioner of police leaves, the acting commissioner should be given to the deputy police commissioner......

COMMENTS: Let me begin with this - I find the actions of the leaders of the country that calls for 10 Parliamentary seats for women in the name of "equality" and "gender partnership" in public sector, appalling! Interesting, but expected, the attack on Junita Matanga is already happening. And the Solomon Star news agency doesn't help the process by citing "unnamed" sources. The article stated that some senior police officers are upset at her for not performing well. That is their OPINION! The crusade against her is nothing more than a disapproval of her as a woman, a Polynesian, and courageous individual.
Ms Matanga is a senior police officer who has a long string of achievements that warranting her position in the top echelons of the police force and she should be given the job till her time is up. I am sure that if a Malaitan woman or a Western woman is holding this post at the moment, and is attacked unfairly, people would come to her aid, unfortunately I didn't hear a damn beep about it from the police and women advocacy groups in the country. Where the hell is the Women's group - the ones fighting tooth-and-nail to push through women Parliamentarians? Isn't Ms Matanga's case the kind of case that they are pushing for in the last four years? It is a shame that some fools in the Police are trying to discredit her.
