No Lies in Politics

When we talk about Politics we are talking about a different world where its principles are completely detached from the truth. For instance, in politics there is no lie, no wrong, etc. When a politician (and judge in this case) was caught saying something that is contrary to the laws or against the norms, he/she and supports don't think it was a lie. When asked, "Are you going to say that you lied in the past?" the answer has always been "no", a mere slip-of-the-tongue, misspoke etc. Fact is, he/she is LYING. Again, in politics, lying is not as foreign as a Martian; every lie is treated in politics as just ethical issues. Nothing is extremely wrong about lying!

Take for instance the hearing of the Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor, an Appellate judge of Puerto Rican heritage. A lawyer of a couple of decades, and an author of a few controversial papers (thesis & speeches) and lectures that demonstrated purely her ethnic biases against White people. Her pro-Hispanic views have been her major problems during her hearing. Now that US president Barrack Obama appointed her to the US Supreme Court, everything she said are now returning to haunt her. As a major political practice, a nominee has to prove herself/himself to the Senate Committee that he/she is the right choice. Which also means that the Democrat and the Republican Senators in the Committee are given the right to question the nominee. During this grueling examination of her performance, she appears to be a different Judge. All of a sudden, all her biases were re-interpreted, she came up with some new meanings, new explanations etc. Why can't she just admit that she was wrong and biased, and then apologizes for it? One thing is clear, an appointed judge must not apologize to show signs of weaknesses. Her re-interpretations of her legal philosophies pointed to one thing - she is lying about all of them! She said lie after lie, flip-flopping from her original philosophy, and outright beating around the bush. These lies will go with her to the Supreme Court once nominated and god knows how she would rule on fundamental issues facing this country.

Notorious of her philosophies was her argument that a "wise Latina woman" would reach a better judgment than an average "white male". She back-tracked on this and trying to be more academic in her new twisted explanations. But the case that was brought to the Appellate panel of which she was a member and of which her vote made the difference, bears direct testimony to her views on race. That case validated her opinion and "empathy" on ethnic minorities. She was given the opportunity to make the right choice, and she blew it. She voted against the Fire-fighters' case who challenged the government's decision to drop their promotion after they scored successfully during their promotional test. The lower courts ruled that the promotion would not be upheld simply because no ethnic fire-fighters passed that test. As ridiculous a ruling as it may seemed, Judge Sotomayor decided to to vote against the White Fire-fighters and upheld the ruling of the lower circuit court. Her vote made the difference. However, this ruling had been overturned recently by the US Supreme Court.

She lied and lied and she never got the guts to apologize to the American people for misleading them. Any GOP nominee with similar background, the Liberal democrats would be acting as hungry lions as they did to Justice Alito and Roberts. Any reader on her writings and rulings would come to one conclusion-she is a RACIST!

To be continued (hearing is on....)
