Who is the real Traitor?
Observations: The past weekend had been filled with media reports of the so-called "Traitor" - the man who leaked US secrets to the world and disappeared in Hong Kong. The reaction had been nothing but shocking - it divided both political spectrum; some on the right move left and some on the left moved right. Some believe the man is guilty of treason, others believe that in spite of Snowden's controversial decisions, he did the right thing because civilians have all the rights in the world to know if the government is spying on them. It is a debate that will not end now, nor any time soon. For that matter, one is left to ask, why the did he do it? This is a man equally frustrated with what he was seeing and may have been motivated by the countless scandals unfolding in matters of weeks to come up with one. Whatever the motives are - it is important to put things to perspective: This man is guilty and he knows it that is why he is in hiding. On the other hand, he exposed a government running wild behind closed-doors; a government that thinks it has all the powers in the world to pursue controversial policies with no regards to the constitutional rights of citizens. Because of that, it is tough to call someone a traitor when your government is the real traitor.
