Time for a New Government?

I live here in America where politicians are always under the public microscope- a country where "experience" matters. Living here makes me see things in a whole different perspective; indeed the so-called "experience" is our biggest problem. There is a striking similarity between our government and the government of California, and the US under President Barrack Hussein Obama. The election of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger who was an actor with no political experience, as the governor of the "golden state" (California), and the election of President Obama (who served only 140 days in the Senate) as the president of this great nation, are testaments to the relevancy of so-called "experience". California is going down the tube with a double digit billion dollar deficit, while the US is heading toward a severe recession with President Obama's deficit hitting trillions of dollars, breaking a deficit record in the history of the US presidency. Both men (Schwarzenegger and Obama) have one thing in common-inexperience (or should I say "lacking" in experience?).
The Solomon Islands is going down the same road with the election of a man with little experience, Dr. Derek Sikua, as the Prime Minister. Corruption is ripe in Solomon Islands right under his nose, yet his government is setting up and making itself appeared as "the anti-corruption" government in history of this SI, however, the recent exposure of government's dirty dealings, particularly the abusing of public funds through government's power, maybe way too much for poor Solomon Islanders to bear. The MPs using of their entitlement (whatever) to pay their spouses $50,000 under the watch of this PM (who seemed to endorse this) shows how inexperienced he is, and may make the case for those who want a change of government.

Letters to the Solomon Star editor such as this;

DEAR EDITOR – I think it’s time for the much self-gloried CNURA to go, don’t you think so folks?
I would like to ask the good newly elected Governor General to sack the CNURA Government because it is broke and is corrupted and thinks of nothing and nobody else but only for themselves, so the GG must dissolve parliament NOW, no more no less.
I think any right thinking Solomon Islander will agree with me that there is nothing good left in our current CNURA regime.
Our current Prime Minister is just a weak leader, who has no real concern at all for the peace and security of its citizen and has made the CNURA Government all the more a laughing stock....

shows that the people of Solomon Islands can not be fooled by politicians who think they have the right and the audacity to circumvent the law (without being detected) in order to help themselves and their spouses (wives). The truth is being exposed; these corrupt politicians (who also proposed an anti-corruption workshop to teach people how "not to" be corrupt people) used the law for their own benefit. They pushed through a legislation that aimed at making their life more comfortable not only for now, but for the rest of their life. The fact that the Opposition didn't come out against such corrupt usage of the legislative process, shows that this is a unanimous agreement between all MPs who should be benefiting from this corrupt deal (whether it was done legally or not, it is corruption at best).
Such abuse of the legislative process is reminiscent of Venezuelan's leader Huge Chavez and the deposed leader of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, who tried to use the legislative process to make them themselves heads of their countries "forever". Severe riots thwarted Chavez's efforts and a successful coupe threw the Honduras corrupt leader off the office and the out of the country. This is what happened to those who abused the legislative process for their own ends!

Prime Minister Dr. Sikua, very much like US president Barrack Obama, rose to power after the previous government lost the confidence of Solomon Islanders and some of his own Ministers and Backbenchers. He ran for the PM's office with the "rid off corruption" mantra and won. Since then, he was arrested of DUI and badmouthing cops. Allegations of his alcohol abuse in his office and allegation of partying in New York brought his approval down dramatically, but when, under his watch, Politicians are abusing the law (dishing $2,500,00 for their spouses) for their own pleasure, life just become extremely irritable. He should know better that such a dramatic move at a time when Solomon Islands' economy is in shambles, can only be attributed to one thing-his own "inexperience" in public relationship and a fake "anti-corruption" advocate.

The call for him to go (or step down) is not only relevant but important if the Central government wants the respect and trust of the people. Solomon Star newspaper's "letters to the Editor" column is flooded with letters from ordinary people all over the country, expressing their anger at the abuse of power by elected MPs. To put this to rest, any legislation aimed at benefiting family members who are not entitled to, must be thrown out before any further damage is made to the integrity of our government. Dr. Sikua needs to spend more time in training on how to lead a nation with transparency and accountability, he is currently doing the opposite.
