Israel fired on Syria

PM of Israel - Benjamin Natanyahu
After the US presidential election, the prime minister of Israel declared that his country is not counting on any nation - an indirect reference to USA - if it decided to go along with plans to disrupt Iranian nuclear program.
Now, there's serious instability in Gaza, and up North where Israeli DF fired into Syria after strayed Syrian shells landed near IDF outpost in Golan Height. Also Israel has taken a number of Syrians who escaped the bloody civil war in Syria.

This is a fragile situation for Israel. The worst scenario would be Syria instigating a war between its proxy army, Hezbollah, and Israel. This would open up another front in the already unstable region. Another danger lurking in Gaza where rockets were being fired into Israel.
The head of Fatah, Mahmoud Abbas called to congratulate President Obama shortly after the election, but he also reminded him that he would proceed with the plan to press the UN to recognize Palestine as a state. The US government rejected the Palestinians/Arab proposal in the past because Fatah and the Palestinian leaders refused to recognized the right of Israel to exist. There's likelihood that Hamas will escalate its activities against Israel in the near future, the last thing Israel needs as it facing a stubborn Iranian regimes.
