Another Daylight Robery by Solomon Islands Parliamentarians!

I woke up this morning and just browsed through the Solomon Star News agency's website and came across this news article, which really pissed me off. What the hell are our Members of Parliament doing to our country, our freaking poor nation? I am going to paste the whole article here so we can take another look at it in its entirety.

Title: Excessive Parl Budget
MINISTRY of Finance has allocated an extra $4-million to the National Parliament under the 2009 Supplementary Appropriation Bill, it was revealed.
This was done without the consent of the National Parliament.
National Parliament has only requested $2.7-million to meet the repair of the complex, the organisation and administration, plant replacement and parliamentary session and committee expenditure.
However, Clerk to Parliament Taeasi Sanga was surprised to see $6.7-million on the supplementary budget when she appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) last week.
She said the last two items might be put in by the Budget Unit in the finance ministry.
According to the Bill report, the $4-million will cover the increase in the Members of Parliament allowances and their micro-Projects.
Opposition Leader, Manasseh Sogavare has pointed out the issue during the PAC but his colleagues did not want further deliberation.
During the committee of supply of the Bill yesterday, the MPs did not even raise the matter regarding the extra entitlements.
The Bill just went smoothly and passed together by the members of parliament.
When Solomon Star contacted the Ministry of Finance Budget Unit, a female officer said she couldn’t comment because their bosses were out. (Eddie Osifelo: Solomonstar.com)

First of all, let me thank the Solomon Star for revealing this government robbery of SI's public money, and for the Opposition Leader, Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, for standing up against this even though his colleagues decided to shut their bloody dirty mouths when he brought it up. Let me make one thing absolutely clear; the MPs are not Parliamentarians of their own free will, they work for the people of Solomon Islands. They are employees of Solomon Islands voters and they don't have the right to rip people off their money, especially in such bizarre or should I say "cunning" way. This report reveals that the Parliament was only informed of $2.7 million in the 2009 Supplementary Appropriation Bill, which covers various things outlined by the Clerk to Parliament. However, the article claims that the Clerk was surprised to see an additional $4 million. What is this huge amount for? The article claimed that "the $4-million will cover the increase in the Members of Parliament allowances and their micro-Projects." Increase in Parliamentarians' allowances? had the Parliament passed (recently) a bill to increase Parliamentarians' salary? If the answer is no, this $4 million increase of MPs' salary is "illegal" and they should be brought before the High Court for stealing Solomon Islands' public money without the use of proper Parliamentary procedures. This is, in my view, a criminal act which should be imeddiately investigated.

Secondly, I suspect that the instigator of this "daylight robbery" is non other than the conman, the most corrupt, the bloody money monger himself, Hon. Snyder Rini. He is the Minister of Finance who is responsible or overseeing financial stuff going before Parliament. In this case, I suspect that he and his cohorts inserted this $4 Million in this Appropriation Bill, hoping that no one noticed it and sure enough only the LO had the guts to question these extra money. I am appalled that such a corrupt figure, who had been responsible in many ways for a lot of craps in the past three years, should be given a pass by our leaders. Where are our Parliament watch-dogs? Those idiots who were appointed to watch-dog offices in the Public sector should investigate this man and his cronies. He should be brought before the financial committee, if there is any, to answer for all these dirty dealings. And by all means, give Solomon Islands' people some comfort by giving these corrupt idiots their dues! their most deserved punishment if they are found liable for the abuse of Solomon Islands' law and public money. For heaven sakes, where are the bloody watchdogs of this nation? What happened to those offices who in the past threw corrupt politicians behind bars for misusing public money? where the hell are they? If you can't do your job in monitoring and putting this corrupt idiots where they belong, then get the hell out!

Finally, the civil society must stand up now against this ridiculous administration-do something to save our country and our sanity. Where are those civil society groups that protested the Julian Moti appointment? Where is the Transparency Solomon Islands? where are the NGOs? where is the Solomon Islands Christian Association (SICA)? where the hell are you freaking civil leaders of this country? Why was the appointment of a man convicted of Child-Molestation and cleared of the charges, a major concern to you and not this daylight robbery of our money? This government comes to power, promising to clean up SI of corruption, but the past years have been a roller coaster ride with Dr. Sikua and Mr. Rini taking the front seat. By the end of this administration's term, SI's treasury will be dried up! It is time that those appointed in the past to check the Parliamentarians conducts, do something about it! Again, if you can't do your job to keep these stupid leaders in check, then get the freaking hell out!
